I heard this on Five Live on Sunday, but I am glad it has appeared in print now.
Newcastle United’s plight is good for Championship division – Newcastle Journal
Its been stated that the relegation of Newcastle United will be bad for the Premier Leagues Revenue. Simply put the Toon Army’s fan base is large and loyal and the loss of the revenue that these fans bring in on their travels will affect other clubs in the league.
Now I doubt it will be so bad as to break the bank, but I do know of many fans that go to away games, many of them without tickets, just so they can be near the team when they play.
On the flipside it’s also claimed that the Championship will benefit from Newcastle United playing in that league. The fact of the matter is when Newcastle United goes to play Blackpool, Plymouth and Swansea; the stadiums will be sold out. It’s not often that some of these teams get to play a club the size of Newcastle United and some of those clubs stay away fans might get the bug back, seeing as they will get to see their teams take on a club like Newcastle United.
But let’s hope that we don’t end up as the next Leeds!!!
